they shave reallly close w/out totally removing their beard! - usually accomplished w/an electric razor - my man does it all the time! looks HOT!

You mean keeping the same look through the entire shoot? Most times it's makeup applies with a stipple sponge. Some guys have super fast beard growth and can shave and will look that way by morning. For thicker look a electric razor but thats usually not a shadow anymore.
